Cosplay Spotlight Nicci Fett

Costumer Nicci Fett is bold, beautiful and insanely talented! The long haired beauty is gifted in many different areas of crafting including sculpting, special effects make up and building armor. Nicci took some time to talk to the Confessions of a Cosplay Girl Blog about her craft, upcoming projects and the importance of women standing up for themselves on the internet. Keep reading for a very entertaining interview!

Victoria: How long have you been in the hobby of costuming and creating props?

Nicci: For ages! Since I was really young I had a strong obsession with "making." I was either drawing, sculpting, or slapping some weird materials together to make some monsters happen.

Victoria: Whats the process like creating armor? What materials do you use? How long does it take?

Nicci: It depends on what I am using. Some armors call for real life chainmaille weaving methods, others are taking products like foams and processing them with different products till you can fake a real life armor. Some is sculpting, casting in a plastic, then going nuts with metallic paints till you get the desired end result. Timing varies as well. Sometimes Ill be really invested in a project and make major dents in it quickly, other times I will drag my feet and lay in a pile of supplies begging it to just make itself.

Victoria: You have done many horror looks. Can you take me through the steps of creating something that dramatic and graphic?

Nicci: Haha I will try my best! This is a tough one. First I generally take a good look at my face, I pick out all my weird features, I have large eyes, some sharp teeth, an odd bone structure...So I tend to keep that all in mind while I draw up a few thumbnail sketches. Sketches are normally costume design for my body type and what features to bring out and exaggerate. Makeup is key in costume making so its good to really plan it out. Too often I see gorgeous amazing costumes that took ages to construct, and a huge lack of makeup to tie it together, bringing it all to life. Goal for me is using makeup to really make me a part of my costume (does that make sense or am I a lunatic?) Lol Basically that is how I bring stuff together and make it as real as I physically can.

Victoria: Makes sense to me! You have a no-nonsense policy when it comes to sexual advances and creepy emails. I absolutely love it! Do you think its important for a woman to stand up for herself in this digital age?

Nicci: Oh absolutely! Not just women either, woman, man, ANIMAL, stand up for yourself. Things can get dangerous if you do not put an end to something right where it starts. I am engaged to my best friend on the planet, and it is no secret to any friends or followers. I have no problem humiliating someone who is clearly disrespecting me or Steven, its as simple as that. If someone touches you at a convention, touch them back ...directly in the teeth!!! Or you know, find one of them security people.

Victoria:  Are you currently working on any new projects?

Nicci: Yes, I currently have a human head armature, some silicon and some foam sitting on my floor frowning at me, as well as Steves half finished armor in a ball. in my photography room... I am pretty sure I heard it whisper ( Please kill me).

Victoria: What has been your favorite convention experience?

Nicci: My favorite ever??? I have two, they were some of the first conventions I attended with Steve actually. One was Wizard World in Philly, before it was a big deal. So we were pretty much goofing off the entire time, the other is Pax East Boston. Both were ages ago, and just a goofy playful fun time. Pax was incredible, it was like camp for gaming nerds! So we were either shouting at each other playing games or shouting at each other painting miniatures ...or just shouting wildly for no reason.

Victoria: You are incredibly talented in regards to sculpting, special effects makeup, making armor and more. Where did you learn it all? T

Nicci: Thank you!!! I am afraid the only explanation I have are both my hands are extremely haunted by phantoms.

Victoria: Have you ever considered taking your talents and breaking into the entertainment industry?

Nicci: Nah, I have too much anxiety. I actually nearly vomit every time I enter a convention center no matter how small it is. You should see me on panel! Panels are a nightmare. My next panel costume will be a pee stain on my crotch and some puke around the neckline of my shirt, just so hopefully it all blends in.

Victoria: Where can people view a portfolio of your work and contact you?

Nicci: Right here! https://www.facebook.com/ErrorFett that is where I share the bulk of my stuff.
