Why Do People Think Memes Are Funny

Memes are those pictures that circulate the internet on the beloved social network.

The witty joker in the group will post meme after meme and the rest of the witless wonders will applaud and call them awesome.

The idea seems to be to use the same set of pictures - ALL THE TIME - and to post captions on them that are supposedly entertaining.  A cat talking about the other people on the forum.  The fewer the words and the poorer the spelling - the better.

I have tried to like these new forms of entertainment, really I have.  After all I want to be now and trendy and appeal to the youth market.  Quite what the purpose is of appealing to them I dont know but that must be a good thing.  It is why ancient companies like Yahoo want to spend a billion on a site that specialises in this sort of thing.

Good luck to them monetising it.  I know from experience that funny pictures on their own do not make much money or attract decent advertising.  Maybe it is different for cats that say cheez.

The truth is that I find these meme pictures depressing, irritating and unoriginal.  The genuinely funny ones are very few compared to the deluge that swamps the internet.  These attempted funnies posted by the internet comedians are usually anything but.

I like pictures especially original ones that offer something different.  I just dont get what the point is of posting the same picture, with different words if you are lucky, time after time.

Of course, it will be me that is wrong, that just doesnt get it.  Me and my rubbish stickman pictures are just as irritating and not funny.  At this very moment someone will be writing a page explaining how they dislike stickmen and why oh why do people bother?
